They were made safe by police who cornered off the site and began an investigation after Monday's find.
Mr Beardon said: "We had gone to the area like we do every week to clear the bins and disinfect, when I stumbled across what looked like a takeaw

"But when I picked it up, it was labelled as explosives and had what looked like a lot of cartridges packed tightly inside."

Marathon could cross the £500m mark in fundraising for charities since the race started 30 years ago.

About 36,000 people, including singer Natalie Imbruglia and Kenyan marathon champion Tegla Loroupe, are expected to run the 26.2-
mile route on 25 April.
A total of 850 projects in the capital have been helped by the funds.
